How to handle Translation Memories in BWX
1. Creating a Translation Memory (TM)
On the BWX Index page, click on Translation Memory and then in Translation Memories
Click on
Add TM
Fill in all the necessary information and click on
Create
Name: TM name. This is how we find this translation memory in the system
Organization: Organization which the TM belongs
Source Language: it must be a single origin language
Target Language: you can add several target languages
2. Managing a TM
After being created, a TM has the following structure:
The Organization which the TM belongs
The Organizational Unit where the TM is linked
Total Segments
Last imported file
Source language and target languages
To add content to the TM, you can upload .tmx files
Clicking on
Actions
, you can sync, export and clear the TM
The Translation Memories can have one source language only, but several target languages
8. By Clicking on Add Segment
, it is possible to add new Segments to an existing TM
3. Linking a TM to an Organizational Unit (Account Admin)
In Organizational Units settings, you can link the TM that must be used on the Projects
In the Organizational units initial screen, click on Translation Memories
Click on
Add
and choose the TM you want to link to the Organizational Unit
You can set up the TM as:
Default: if activated, the TM will be automatically chosen to be used in the projects of the Organizational Unit
Read: permission to view the TM
Write: if enabled, once a segment gets confirmed, the content from this segment will be saved in the TM
Penalty: a penalty applied to a TM reduces the match percentage of translation entries. For example, adding a 5% penalty will make a 100% entry have a 95% match.
Threshold: The threshold used to display the TM results in the translation suggestions tab (in the BWX Editor). Only results above the threshold will be displayed.
4. Linking a Translation Memory to a Project
When creating a new project, in Step 2, it is possible to link a TM to it. If there is a Default TM, the TM field will be filled in automatically.
In the Project page, click on Translation Memory to view which TM is linked to the Project
It is possible to configure the way the TM will work in each Project:
Penalty: as explained above, a penalty applied to a TM reduces the match percentage of translation entries. For example, adding a 5% penalty will make a 100% entry have a 95% match.
Threshold: as the name says, it is a threshold used to display the TM results in the translation suggestions tab (in the BWX Editor). Only results above the threshold will be displayed.
Read: permission to view the TM
Write: if active, the linguist can add terms to the TM once he confirms the translated segments.
